Attitude & Action: Advice For My Sweet Little Girl
I was honestly caught off guard when my 4 year old daughter told me the picture she was coloring was for her pretend website, “AlesiaRoos.com.” I recently started a website and had been telling her all about it. She would listen to mommy’s boring story of the day like any 4 year old and then go about playing with her toys. I totally underestimated how much she was taking in … and how much she wanted to be like me.
My initial reaction to her comment was laughter, thinking “kids say the darnedest things.” Then I started to feel pride…I am doing something outside my comfort zone, something to better myself and help others and she is seeing it! Then I started to REALLY think about it…if I have her attention, what do I ultimately want her to take away? What do I want to instill in her (and her brothers of course!) for how to approach school and eventually work or really anything that life hands them????
Well, this is for you Alesia…
I know you are watching and listening, sweet girl, so here is what I want you to know…it all comes down to ATTITUDE & ACTION
ATTITUDE
- Always believe in yourself and your abilities. You are so incredibly smart and you can accomplish anything you set out to achieve.
- There are going to be people who tell you that you can’t. Don’t listen to them. They have no idea the strength you have and what you are capable of.
- Don’t compare yourself to others. What others do or have is irrelevant — what matters is that you focus on being the best YOU can be.
- Be approachable. Show the world that brilliant smile and you’ll attract other beautiful souls into your life. Surround yourself with those who will challenge you and raise you up.
- You have something valuable to say so share your thoughts and opinions. But do so in a way that others feel comfortable sharing their opinions too so that you can learn and grow together.
- Be grateful. Be aware of your gifts, your loved ones and other intangibles in your life. Thank God for them every day. There is no better feeling than your heart bursting full of gratitude.
ACTION
- Get it done today! Don’t hesitate, don’t procrastinate. Act with a sense of urgency.
- There is a saying “actions speak louder than words”…make your actions count. Do the right thing even when it is not the easiest or most convenient thing. Be disciplined and act.
- Even if you’re not 100% sure, take a chance. Set your expectations and if the results you are getting don’t meet your expectations, change the plan. Don’t be scared of failure. Set expectations, fail fast, learn from the experience and move onto the next. Life is trial and error…never stop trying.
Why are attitude & action so important? A positive approach coupled with a relentless focus on moving things forward will win every time. There will be times when your natural abilities fall short. Don’t give up. What you may lack in natural abilities, you will more than compensate for with attitude and action.
Always remember, Dream big…smile…and go get ’em!
Mommy loves you!!! 💕
